MAC Track and Field Championships: Day Two Recap

OXFORD, Ohio - The Kent State University men's team and the University of Akron women's squad maintained their leads in the team standings after the completion of second day of competition at the 2007 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The Golden Flashes have tallied 77 points through eight scored events, while the defending champion Zips have posted 59 points through eight scored events. The three-day meet concludes Saturday with the finals of 13 men's and women's events.
Four individual men's titles were awarded Friday at the George L. Rider Track Complex, with a pair of athletes repeating in their respective events. Kent State's Chris Caine repeated as the MAC Champion in the decathlon (7,202 points) -- giving the Golden Flashes four MAC titles through two days -- while Eastern Michigan's Dave Adamek successfully defended his conference shot put title (61-4 1/4). Other individual champions were Akron Cadeau Kelly in the long jump (24-7 3/4) and Eastern Michigan's Corey Nowitzke in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (8:56.19).
On the women's side, five individual champions were crowned, with Buffalo taking home a pair of titles. Patrice Coney won the heptathlon (5,116 points), while teammate Vanessa Roelofson took home the conference's javelin title (147-9). Other individual champions were Toledo's April Williams in the long jump (20-1 3/4), Western Michigan's Krystalyn Mauch in the shot put (50-8) and Ball State's Rose Lehe in the steeplechase (10:46.87).
Day three of the MAC Championships gets underway tomorrow at 10:30 a.m.
