PADUCAH, Ky. - The Miami University women's tennis team picked up their second straight win and its third in the last five matches, taking down Southern Illinois, 5-2, in Murray State's tennis complex in Paducah, Ky.
The RedHawks won four of the six singles matches, led by No. 2 singles Linda Jirouskova (Milevska, Czech Republic/Gymnazium Milevsko), who dispatched her opponent 6-4, 7-5. Kristen McPhillips (Willoughby, OH/Hathaway Brown), Kelly Douple (Dayton, OH/Centerville) and Victoria Pulido (Cuernavaca, Mexico/ITESM-Morelos) took their No. 3, 4 and 5 flights in straight sets.
In doubles action, Miami took the No. 1 and No. 2 matches behind the strong play of Jirouskova/Katina Lomidze (Pompano Beach, FL/Fort Lauderdale Prep) and Leda Pesatova (Podlesi, Czech Republic/Frydlant NAd Ostr-Gymnazium)/Pulido, respectively.
The win moves Miami to 5-7 on the year. The RedHawks play next in Florida as part of their Spring Break training, competing at Florida Atlantic and Florida International on March 14-15 at 1 p.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.
