Miami University's athletic department extends its sympathies to the family of Cincinnati Reds baseball legend Joe Nuxhall on his passing Thursday night. Joe was a longtime friend of RedHawk athletics and could often be seen in the crowd at Miami baseball and basketball games. In fact, one of his very first jobs in broadcasting was as play-by-play announcer for WMOH Radio, describing Miami basketball games in the early 1960s. Those particular teams included one-time star player and current RedHawk coach Charlie Coles.
"Miami University joins the sports world in expressing its sorrow with the passing of Joe Nuxhall," said Miami athletic director Brad Bates. "He was a great friend of the athletic department and always had a smile for everyone he met here at Millett Hall. Joe truly was one of Butler County's favorite sons."
