COLUMBUS, Ohio - Four students from the Miami University Athletic Training Program captured the Ohio Athletic Trainers' Association (OATA) Seventh Annual Quiz Bowl Saturday at the Ohio State University. The RedHawks' team, which was comprised of student trainers senior Sarah Vitale, junior Michael Seals and sophomores Nadia Wahid and Jen Miller, finished first in a 14-team field and earned the right to represent Ohio at the Great Lakes Athletic Trainers' Association (GLATA) Quiz Bowl competition March 8-10 in Chicago, Ill.
Fourteen teams from various Ohio universities and colleges competed in last weekend's quiz bowl competition, and Miami advanced to the finals after rallying to answer the final three questions correctly in the first round. In the finals, which pitted Miami against Capital, Wright State and Marietta, the Red and White started strong and held off Wright State to earn top honors.
The Miami team, which was coached by Dr. Brett Massie, received a $300 cash prize for winning the quiz bowl.
In addition to the four teams in the finals, the other Ohio schools in the quiz bowl were Kent State, Heidelberg, Cedarville, Otterbein, Ashland, Cincinnati, Ohio State, Xavier, Wilmington, and Mount Saint Joseph.
At the GLATA Quiz Bowl, which is slated to be held at the beginning of March, the RedHawks will be pitted against other quiz bowl winners from Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota.
