GAME NOTES
Sept. 23, 2006
Carrier Dome - Syracuse, N.Y.
Team Notes
- With the 34-14 loss at Syracuse, Miami dropped to 0-4 for the first time since 1989 and just the sixth time in program history. The RedHawks dropped to 0-3 in three all-time games versus the Orange. The teams meet in Oxford next year.
- Miami's defense allowed an opposing team to score on its opening drive for the first time this season. Entering the game, the RedHawks had allowed only one first-quarter scoring drive on the year and only 19 first-half points.
- The RedHawks, who entered the day ranked last nationally in sacks allowed, were without starting left tackle Charlie Norden and right guard Matt McKeown. The re-tooled offensive allowed seven sacks and has given up 22 on the year.
- After allowing 107 yards and two touchdowns on its first two series, Miami's defense clamped down, allowing just 13 yards over the rest of the first half. However, the RedHawks surrendered 195 second-half yards.
- Miami's nine tackles for loss and four quarterback sacks were both season highs.
- Miami's offense was shut out in the opening quarter for the fourth straight game.
- A nine-yard touchdown pass from Mike Kokal to Ryne Robinson to start the second quarter marked Miami's first first-half touchdown of the season. It capped a nine-play, 60-yard drive.
- Miami picked up just 11 yards on its first three offensive series but drove the ball inside the Syracuse 30-yard line on each of its final four first-half possessions while gaining 175 yards of offense. However it recorded just seven points, missing a field goal and failing to convert a pair of fourth downs in Orange territory.
Individual Notes
- Mike Kokal completed 17-of-28 passes for 171 yards and a touchdown and added 24 yards rushing. He got off only three second-half pass attempts before being replaced late in the fourth quarter.
- Senior wide receiver Ryne Robinson extended his string of consecutive games with a reception to 34, totaling seven receptions for 72 yards and two touchdowns.
- Redshirt freshman quarterback Daniel Raudabaugh, who threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown on his first series, drove Miami 79 yards for a touchdown on the team's final drive, completing 8-of-10 passes.
- True freshman placekicker Trevor Cook converted a fourth-quarter PAT for his first collegiate point.
- Redshirt freshman defensive end Travis Craven, playing in his second career game, was credited with the first two quarterback sacks of his career during the first half. He finished the game with 3.5 tackles for loss and a pass break-up.
- Miami's Nathan Parseghian had his second consecutive field goal attempt blocked in the second quarter. It was his first attempt since having an attempt blocked at the end of regulation versus Purdue on Sept. 9.
