Miami University Dance Team Takes 1st Place Overall, Collects

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - A congratulations goes out to the Miami University Dance Team for their outstanding performance and success at camp. The Miami Dance Team again made a mark at the National Dance Alliance (NDA) camp, held at the University of Louisville from August 3 to 6. Each summer the dance team attends camp to learn new choreography, compete against other dance teams, and earn a bid to the national competition.
The dance team came home from camp with even more success than in previous years. The dance team received a bid to the NDA National Competition in Daytona Beach, Florida for the fourth year in a row and placed first in their division in the Camp Competition. The dance team was also honored with a superior rating in their initial team evaluation, a Spirit Stick, and the 'Most Spirited' award. This prize is voted on by all other teams attending camp and is awarded to the dance team that best displays sportsmanship and spirit for their university.
Individual dancers received accolades as well. Freshman Laura Siedlecki was named NDA All-American. Senior and captain Miranda McKirnan and freshman Laura Siedlecki were asked to audition for NDA Staff. The team is eager for the season to get further underway and will be submitting a video in December to try to qualify for a paid bid to Nationals for the third year in a row.
The Dance Team would like to extend a special thanks to their family and friends who continue to support their efforts. The women are also especially thankful to Mike Watson, Associate Athletic Director, and his assistant, Norma McClure, who offer constant support to the women throughout their season.
To fill remaining spots on the team, the dance team will be holding fall auditions from August 28-30 at the Millett Sub-Gym. If interested in auditioning for the dance team, please contact Head Coach Eloiza Domingo-Snyder at dominge@muohio.edu.
