MIAMI TEAM NOTES
- Miami's 20-10 win gave Shane Montgomery his first career head coaching win, while giving the RedHawks their first victory of the season. It also ended a four-game losing streak that extended to the last two games of 2004 and had been the program's longest since 1993.
- The RedHawks have won 16 of their last 17 games versus the Golden Flashes.
- After giving up an average of 22.0 first-half points in losses to Ohio State and Central Michigan, Miami's defense blanked Kent State in the first half as the RedHawks took a 10-0 lead into the half.
- After totaling 168 yards of total offense in the first quarter, Miami managed only 36 yards in the second quarter and struggled until midway through the third quarter when it began assembling the first of back-to-back scoring drives.
- Miami converted 10-of-18 third downs on the day, while restricting Kent State to 4-of-17 third-down conversions.
MIAMI INDIVIDUAL NOTES
- Sophomore running back Brandon Murphy notched his first career 100-yard rushing day, amassing 98 first-half yards on the way to 172 yards rushing and a touchdown.
- Josh Betts, who moved into Miami's career top five for total offense on the day, completed 22-of-37 passes for 251 yards, marking his 15th 200-yard passing performance in 16 starts. He has cleared 250 yards passing in all three starts this season.
- Junior wide receiver Ryne Robinson cracked Miami's career top 10 in all-purpose yardage, totaling 60 receiving yards and 66 punt return yards on the afternoon to move to ninth place with 3,205 career all-purpose yards. Robinson's five receptions moved him to eighth all-time at Miami in career catches (113).
- Senior wide receiver Martin Nance hauled in a pair of fourth-quarter touchdown receptions, advancing him to a seventh-place tie on Miami's career TD reception list. He totaled five career TD catches in two trips to Kent State.
- Nance finished with seven catches for 103 yards, giving him three straight 100-yard receiving days since returning from last year's season-ending injury. He is the first player in program history to compile three straight 100-yard receiving days.
- Senior kicker Todd Soderquist booted a season-long 40-yard field goal late in the first quarter and added a 19-yard chipshot in the fourth quarter, advancing him into sole possession of ninth place on Miami's career field goals list with 15.
- Senior Bryan Tyson's first career interception with under four minutes to play in the fourth quarter helped secure the win for Miami.
