KENT, Ohio (AP) - Brandon Murphy rushed for 172 yards and a touchdown, and Martin Nance caught seven passes for 103 yards and two scores from Josh Betts to lead Miami over Kent State 27-10 Saturday.

The trio helped offset a strong performance by Kent State quarterback Michael Machen, who completed 31 of 56 passes for 338 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions.

The Golden Flashes (1-2, 0-1 Mid-American Conference) pulled to 17-10 on Machen's 61-yard scoring pass to Derrick Bush with 14:20 remaining. The touchdown came just 37 seconds after Nance caught a 1-yard TD from Betts.

Miami made it 20-10 on Todd Soderquist's 19-yard field goal with 10:08 left and stretched the lead when Betts and Nance connected on a 14-yard score with 2:15 to play.

Betts completed 22 of 37 passes for 251 yards with one interception. Murphy scored on a 1-yard run in first quarter before Soderquist kicked a 40-yard field goal to give Miami a 10-0 lead.

Bush had nine catches for 141 yards for Kent State, which rushed for only 31 yards on 16 carries.
