CLEVELAND, Ohio--After leading Miami University's women's basketball team to a 2-1 record last week, including a runner-up finish at the Florida State Seminole Classic, sophomore Amanda Jackson (Springfield, OH/South) has been honored as the Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week.
Jackson, a 2003-04 MAC All-Freshman pick, averaged 15.7 points per game during the weekend and extended her string of double-digit scoring efforts to 10. In last Tuesday's contest versus Chicago State, Jackson tallied 10 points and dished a career-high seven points, helping the RedHawks to an 80-53 defeat of the previously unbeaten Cougars.
Versus Appalachian State in the first round of the Seminole Classic, Jackson led the RedHawks to just the fourth 3-0 start in program history by pouring in a career-high 27 points. Jackson did a large portion of her damage from the free throw line, where she connected on 13-of-16 attempts--both totals ranked among the program's top five single-game efforts. In a losing effort against Florida State the next night, Jackson capped off her weekend by again leading the RedHawks with 10 points and three assists. She was the lone RedHawk selected to the Seminole Classic All-Tournament team.
The honor is the second of Jackson's career, as she was last awarded MAC East Player of the Week plaudits on Feb. 9 of last season after leading the Red and White over Bowling Green and Toledo. The junior leads the RedHawks, averaging 16.0 points per game season, and returns to action Wednesday night when Miami travels to Wright State for a 7:05 p.m. tip.
