Dear Students, Alums, Staff, Faculty, Fans and Administrators:
Remember ESPN's Mike Tirico saying one year ago this week: "For the first time ever, a nationally televised game comes to you from Yager Stadium in Oxford, Ohio ..."
Remember the feeling of the most energized, intimate stadium in the country ...
Remember the painted, naked torsos and rainbow wigs ...
Remember the sea of Red and White, the volume, the calls from your buddies from around the country watching the game ...
Act Two - Tuesday, November 2, 2004!
Scene - Yager Stadium
Fade-in - ESPN2: Miami University vs. the West-Division-leading University of Toledo
However, we have a problem and need your help!
The problem? Weather, Attendance and National Television!
As you may know, the NCAA has instituted new Division IA criterion that requires an average minimum attendance threshold beginning this season. Adverse weather conditions this year have detrimentally impacted our crowd and placed us in a position where we MUST have at least 21,000 fans at the Toledo game next Tuesday - that is 3,000 more than our parent's weekend crowd against Kent State - be there sun or rain, sleet or snow!
WE NEED YOU!
... Every person who enters the gate counts - whether you are seated or standing, silent or screaming, on national TV or ordering a hot dog. Please do not rely on others, please do not assume someone else will take care of it - YOU WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE! In the same way we saw in 2000 that every vote really does count during a Presidential election, on Election Day 2004 every person counts in our attendance numbers.
Oh... and by the way... SOMEBODY THINKS WE'RE PRETTY GOOD!
ABC, ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPN-Plus are broadcasting seven of our games this year including this huge match up with West Division-leading Toledo on national television.
The RedHawks have won three-in-a-row and are making a run for a second consecutive championship and bowl game ...
Visit Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood by watching one of the premier punt returners in the nation in Ryne Robinson ...
A Miami team going for its 11th straight winning season...
The world will be coming to little ol' Oxford, Ohio, on a night when no other football game will be played in the universe!
Our team of Miami students is clearly worthy of our support and I thank you, in advance, for showcasing our great university to a national television audience while demonstrating our passion for this team with your presence Tuesday night.
