Miami Golfers Finish Northern Intercollegiate in Fourth-Place Tie

ANN ARBOR, Mich.-With a solid-third round effort, Miami University's golf team jumped from sixth place to finish in a fourth-place tie with Penn State and Akron in the 15-team field at the Northern Intercollegiate hosted by Michigan. Senior Mark Weghorst carded 71's in the first and third rounds to pace the RedHawks and finish the tournament in a tie for 15th place at five-over par 218.
Senior Mike Slaven shot 77-72-75=224 to tie for 33rd place, while sophomore Ryan Swelin shot 75-77-74=226 to tie for 47th place. Sophomore Matt Thomas and freshman Ben Smith finished the event tied for 56th place with three-round sums of 228.
Miami travels to Waco, Texas, Sept. 29-30 for the Baylor Invitational.
