OXFORD, Ohio - Sophomore first baseman Mike Ferris (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain/Kentucky) is the first member of the Miami baseball team to earn Mid-American Conference Player of the Week honors, and second to earn a weekly accolade. Ferris was on fire at the dish in four games this past week going 8-for-16 (.500) with three home runs.
Ferris opened the four-game schedule this week with a monster game against Wright State, going 4-for-5 with five RBI's and five runs. Not only was it Miami's first five-RBI and five-run game of the season, respectively, but he also belted two home runs in the 23-10 victory for its first multi-home run game. He finished a triple short of hitting for the cycle against the Raiders.
Starting all three games at first base against No. 21 Arizona, Ferris continued to swing the bat going 4-for-11 against the Wildcats. Despite an 0-for-2 performance in Friday's 11-10 loss, though he did reach base on four base on balls, Ferris responded with a three-run home run in Miami's 9-4 win. Also, in the RedHawks' knocking off of Arizona, Ferris went 3-for-5 with a double and four RBI's.
Ferris led the Red and White in last week's for games with a 1.188 slugging percentage and .636 on-base percentage, in addition to his nine runs scored, three home runs and nine RBI's. For the season, Ferris is batting .342 (25-73) with four home runs, 21 RBI's and a .473 on-base percentage.
The RedHawks take on the Dayton Flyers tomorrow, April 9, at 3 p.m. at McKie Field at Hayden Park. Miami returns to MAC action this weekend when it hosts a doubleheader against Ball State on Friday, April 11, at 3 p.m.
