OXFORD, Ohio - Freshman defenseman Andy Greene (Trenton, Mich.) was named to the Central Collegiate Hockey Association's All-Rookie Team on Monday after leading all Miami defensemen with a +8 plus-minus rating in 28 league games this season. Greene becomes the first Miami rookie since Josh Mizerek in 1996-97 to earn CCHA all-rookie honors. He paces all Miami defensemen this season with four goals and 19 assists in 38 games.
Paired with sophomore defenseman Chris Busby (Kenilworth, Ill.), Greene has put up solid offensive numbers from the blueline this season for the Red and White. He and his linemate, Busby, have played together in 32 of Miami's 38 games this season while recording a team-high +15 rating in those games. He is sixth on the team with four goals and 19 assists for 23 points, which is tops among RedHawk defenders. Greene recorded a career-high three assists on March 7 versus Lake Superior State, and his 23 points is the highest total for a Miami defenseman since Dan Boyle notched a team-high 40 points (14-26-40) in 1997-98. Greene also earned one of Miami's seven weekly honors this season when he was selected as the Rookie of the Week on Nov. 25 for his efforts versus Alaska Fairbanks.
Also earning honorable mention all-rookie honors from the Red and White is freshman defenseman Matt Davis (Rocky River, Ohio). Davis is the fourth-straight honorable mention all-rookie selection for the RedHawks. He is second among Miami defensemen with six goals and nine assists for 15 points. Davis was named the CCHA Rookie of the Week after scoring three goals and an assist against Northern Michigan on Oct. 25-26.
The Miami hockey team (20-15-3, 13-12-3 CCHA) earned the No. 6 seed in the CCHA playoffs and has drawn Notre Dame in the first round to be played at Goggin Ice Arena on March 14-16. The first two games, and third if necessary, will be played at 7:35 p.m.
