LAKE PLACID, N.Y. - The Miami University Senior Synchronized Skating team finished second at the U.S. National Championships this evening while the Collegiate team took the national crown with seven first-place ordinals. The senior team earns a berth into the I.S.U. World Synchronized Championships, which will be held in Rouen, France on April 12-13.
The collegiate team won the championship by beating out some strong synchronized skating teams from Michigan State, Western Michigan and Michigan. In addition to receiving seven first-place ordinals, the RedHawks rounded out their championship run with one third-place and one sixth-place ordinal.
Trailing the Haydenettes entering this evening's free skate, the senior team needed a solid performance to catch the Haydenettes. Miami secured its spot in the World Championship field by finishing second overall and second in the free skate program. The RedHawks received five second-place, three third-place, and one fourth-place ordinal in the free skate. The Haydenettes finished at the top after receiving every first-place ordinal in both the short program and the free skate.
