Nippert Stadium - Cincinnati, OH
Team Notes
- With the win, Miami improved to 4-2 (2-0 MAC) and won back-to-back games over Cincinnati for the first time since 1991-92. Miami returns home next week to face Northern Illinois in a Mid-American Conference tilt.
- Miami's win also marked the first time under Hoeppner that the RedHawks have won multiple non-conference outings in a season.
- Miami, which led 31-21 entering the fourth quarter, has a 22-2 record under head coach Terry Hoeppner when tied or leading entering the fourth quarter.
- Dema McCleskey's one-yard touchdown plunge early in the second quarter came after a Miami fumble on a punt return. It marked the first team in six games this season that an opposing team scored a touchdown after a Miami turnover.
- Cincinnati's 68-yard touchdown pass from Gino Guidugli to Jon Olinger was the longest scoring play given up by Miami this season.
- Miami claimed a 24-21 third-quarter lead on a 4th and goal trick play when redshirt freshman quarterback Josh Betts completed his first career pass attempt to true freshman tight end Tyler Vogel who made his first career reception for the touchdown.
- Cincinnati's fourth-quarter block of a Mike Wafzig punt for a safety, marked the first time a Wafzig punt was blocked in 81 career attempts.
- Miami's 414 yards of total offense were its highest total this season.
Individual Notes
- Miami quarterback Ben Roethlisberger completed his first nine passes, including a six-yard touchdown pass to Michael Larkin. Roethlisberger, who finished the day at 27-of-37 for 240 yards, has completed at least one touchdown pass in 17 of his 18 collegiate games.
- Roethlisberger continued to climb the Miami career charts on the day, moving past Larry Fortner (1975-78) into fourth place for pass attempts (588) and total offense (4,697) and past Neil Dougherty (1991-95) into third place for pass completions (373).
- Cincinnati native Michael Larkin put Miami on the scoreboard first when he hauled in a six-yard Roethlisberger pass on the first drive of the game. Larkin has caught a TD pass in five-of-six games this season and needs one more touchdown reception to crack Miami's top 10 in career TD receptions.
- Luke Clemens continued his torrid pace with 114 yards rushing and two rushing touchdowns. Over the past three games, Clemens has rushed for 420 yards and seven touchdowns while notching three straight 100-yard rushing games.
- With his two rushing touchdowns, Clemens notched his fourth multiple-touchdown outing of the season. His nine rushing touchdowns in six games this season are more than any Miami running back had in 2001.
- Milt Bowen's two interceptions with under five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter were the second and third of the season for Bowen, who also helped ice Miami's season-opening win over North Carolina with a fourth quarter interception. Bowen has seven career interceptions.
