AMHERST, N.Y. (AP) - Ben Roethlisberger threw three touchdown passes, and Luke Clemens ran for 98 yards and two scores as Miami University beat Buffalo 49-0 Saturday.
Clemens gave the RedHawks an early 14-0 lead on scoring runs of 12 and 36 yards, as Miami (5-3, 3-1 Mid-American Conference) gained 164 total yards in the first quarter.
Roethlisberger, coming off a school-record 525-yard performance against Northern Illinois, completed 16 of 24 passes for 228 yards. His longest completion of the day came in the third quarter on a 39-yard touchdown strike to wide receiver Michael Larkin. That pushed the lead to 35-0.
Roethlisberger directed one more scoring drive, a six-play, 29-yard effort culminating in Cal Murray's 2-yard touchdown run before giving way to backup Josh Betts with 6:25 remaining in the third quarter.
Buffalo's Randall Secky endured his worst day of the season, completing just 16 of 41 passes for 106 yards and three interceptions. The Bulls (1-7, 0-4) never got their offense on track and gained just 175 yards.
In its last two games, Buffalo has been outscored 115-21.
Roethlisberger connected with Jason Branch in the second quarter for a pair of TD passes as the RedHawks built a 28-0 lead at the half.
Sophomore Mike Smith, who gained 68 yards on eight carries, capped off the rout with a fourth quarter 32-yard touchdown run.
Branch led Miami receivers with four catches for 36 yards, while Larkin had three receptions for 62 yards.
