OXFORD, Ohio - The National Hockey League's Central Scouting Service has listed sophomore Greg Hogeboom (Etobicoke, Ontario), freshman Joe Pomaranski (Plymouth, Mich.) and a member of next year's freshmen class, Stephen Dennis (Toronto, Ontario), on its Mid-Term Report. The Mid-Term Report includes 13 Central Collegiate Hockey Association players out of a total of 240 North American skaters on its rankings for the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, to be held at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario on June 22-23.
Dennis, a defenseman on the St. Michael's Buzzers of the Ontario Provincial Junior Hockey League, was the highest ranked RedHawk, at No. 159. A six-foot, 190-pound defender with the Buzzers, Dennis leads all Buzzer defensemen with 31 points (5-26-31) in 37 contests.
Heading up the active contingent of Miami players is Pomaranski, ranked 190th by the NHL Central Scouting Service. In 22 games this season the six-foot-one, 193-pound Pomaranski has scored three goals and handed out 10 assists from his defensive position, leading all RedHawk defensemen in both categories. He also is an integral member of a penalty-killing unit that is ranked fifth in the CCHA in penalty-killing percentage at .845 (98-116).
Rounding out the threesome is Hogeboom, a six-foot, 190-pound forward for the Red and White. Hogeboom is tied for the team lead with ten goals in 22 games, including a stretch of eight games in which he tallied 13 points (8-5-13). Not previously ranked by the NHL Central Scouting Service, Hogeboom enters the Mid-Term Ranking at No. 235.
The RedHawk hockey team is 9-11-2 overall and 6-8-2 in conference action this season. The team travels to Lake Superior State this weekend, Jan. 18-19, and returns home to the Goggin Ice Arena for a home series versus Notre Dame on Jan. 25-26.
