Miami Softball Falls to Illinois, 4-1

RALEIGH, N.C. (Feb. 18) -- Rounding out its stint at the UNC Triangle Classic, Miami University's softball team ended bracket play with a 4-1 loss to Illinois.
Illinois (9-2) opened up a 4-0 lead in the first four innings, scoring once in the first and third innings and collecting two runs in the fourth.
Miami (2-3) posted its lone run in the sixth inning. Jamie Carey singled and then stole second to set up the run. Kristina Mortaloni knocked in Carey on on a single.
Abbey and Amber Arnold pitched three complete innings. Amber, who started the game, picked up the loss. At the plate, Mortaloni and Keri Brisnehan each went 2-for-3.
The RedHawks take a two-week break before competing at the Dayton Invitational Mar. 3-4.
