OXFORD, Ohio -- In addition to the triumphs on the playing fields, Miami University's student-athletes concluded a strong fall semester in the classroom. RedHawk athletic teams boast 93 student-athletes earning academic honors from the University. Twelve student-athletes recorded 4.0 grade-point averages to earn President's List plaudits, while an additional 81 student-athletes garnered Dean's List accolades with a 3.5 GPA or better.
Representing the women's track and field and cross county teams were Kim Dobler (Rocky River, Ohio/HS), Catie Hollinger (Bowling Green, Ohio/HS), Megan Stanley (Burke, Va./Robinson) and Kate Steffan (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park), who notched perfect 4.0s. The women's track and field and cross country teams led all teams in number of individual President's List honorees. Emily Nayes (Eden Prairie, Minn./HS) and Kay Toth (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) from women's swimming and diving were named to the President's List, while Nick Iagulli (Toledo, Ohio/Southview) and Nathan Peffley (Fort Wayne, Ind./Northrup) from the men's track and field and cross country teams also earned the honor. Volleyball's Tara Buroker (Bluffton, Ohio/HS), football's Cortt Cousino (Cincinnati, Ohio/Indian Hill), men's swimming and diving's Jason Finck (Villa Hills, Ky./Beechwood) and field hockey's Beth Young (Toledo, Ohio/Maumee Valley C.D.) also made the President's List.
The volleyball team led all squads in team grade point average, posting a 3.29. Synchronized skating (3.23), women's soccer (3.21), women's tennis (3.11), women's swimming and diving (3.07) and women's track and field and cross country (3.07) rounded out the top six team GPAs. Baseball led the men's teams with a 2.90 GPA.
"I am always proud of the accomplishments of our student-athletes, but am particularly pleased with the academic successes they have had during the fall semester, especially at such a highly reputable institution as Miami," said Miami Athletic Director Joel Maturi. "To have 81 student-athletes on the Dean's List and 12 more on the President's List is outstanding. I hope our student-athletes will continue to work hard in the classroom, as well as on the fields, and increase that number this spring."
Of Miami's 522 student-athletes competing in 19 sports, 45 percent attained a 3.0 GPA or better.
