Kent State owned a 9-7 advantage midway through the first game, but two Kelly McCullough service aces and an attack error by KSU's Shiva Davis gave Miami the 10-9 edge. McCullough's second service ace, however, was the last point the RedHawks scored in the game as the Golden Flashes went on to claim the first game, 15-10.
Down 5-12 at one point, Miami battled back to pull within three points of the Golden Flashes, 10-13. Game two, however, did not go much better for the RedHawks, falling 10-15.
Game three also went to the Golden Flashes. Miami owned a 7-4 edge at one point, but allowed Kent State to get its foot in the door as the Golden Flashes went on to claim the match with a 15-10 win in the third game.
Erika Eagan sparked the Red and White with 15 kills and 12 digs, while McCullough added 16 kills, eight digs and two service aces.
