The RedHawks opened up their match at Wright State Saturday night with a solid performance in the first game. Lackluster performances in the next two games, however, let WSU get its foot in the door. Miami pulled out the win in game four, but was unable to hold off Wright State in rally scoring.
Streaks were how Miami earned its points in game one. The RedHawks notched four straight points, taking a 4-1 advantage early in the contest. Wright State pulled to within one, 5-4, before Miami went on a scoring frenzy, rattling off 10 unanswered points to take the first game, 15-4.
Service errors were costly for the RedHawks in the second game. Seven Miami service errors prevented the RedHawk offense from even getting started. WSU pulled out to a 0-6 advantage before Miami was able to muster a point. The Raiders extended their lead to 3-12. A Raider attack error gave Miami its fourth point of the game, but that would be the last point the RedHawks would put on the board. WSU evened the match, 1-1, by winning game two, 4-15.
After trailing 6-10, Miami made a comeback. A block by McCullough gave Miami its serve back, which was followed by a McCullough service ace to tie the game, 12-12. A service error, however, gave the Raiders a chance to serve, and they produced three straight points to take the third game, 12-15.
Miami owned a 5-0 lead early in the fourth game, before Wright State notched its first two points. The RedHawks produced four more unanswered points before the Raiders tallied two of their own to give Miami a 9-4 edge. Kills by Lee Ann Karr and Jessica Rayburg sparked a Miami rally that gave Miami a comfortable 14-4 lead. Wright State scored one more point before McCullough put down a big block that sent the match into rally scoring as the RedHawks took game four, 15-5.
A service ace by McCullough gave Miami the early 2-0 advantage. Wright State, however, had other ideas as they went on to score six straight points to make the score 13-5 in favor of the Raiders. Miami notched three points before WSU iced the match on a kill to leave the final tally 15-8.
