LEXINGTON, Ky. Miami University's men's and women's track teams got their 2000 seasons underway over the weekend, competing at the University of Kentucky's Ron McCravy Memorial Meet. Though the meet was unscored, the RedHawks were able to find a number of bright points among their individual performances. Miami's women's team got the meet off to a good start on Friday night, when Brienne Wade (Papillion, Neb./LaVista) smashed the Miami women's pole vault record by over six inches with a fourth-place effort of 9'-9 1/4. Meghan Gilhooly (Chicago, Ill./St. Ignatius) carried the momentum into Saturday, opening the day's events with a second-place finish in the high jump (5'-4 1/4). Sharon Poisson (Louisville, Ky./East) and Suzanne Smith (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) finished fourth and fifth, respectively in the high jump. The RedHawk men, who were competing in their first meet this season, received impressive performances from Nick Andrews (Kettering, Ohio/Alter) and their 4X400-meter relay team. Andrews finished third in the mile run, clocking a time of 4:18.90. The mile-relay team also raced to a third-place finish, missing the Miami indoor record by under a second with a time of 3:17.50. Miami's women return to action next Saturday when they compete at the all-Ohio Championships, hosted at Bolwing Green. The RedHawk men are off until Feb. 19, when they compete at the Purdue Invitational.
