Miami Volleyball Team Falls in Four to Bowling Green

Lee Ann Karr (Kirkwood, Mo./Kirkwood) led Miami with 18 kills and three blocks. Kelly McCullough (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) followed with 16 kills and three blocks, and Susan Poll (Grand Rapids, Mich./East Kentwood) added 15 kills, a .406 hitting percentage and two blocks.
For Bowling Green Caty Rommeck 19 kills and 12 digs and 12 digs. JoAnna Papageorgiou 18 kills, 12 digs and eight blocks.
Bowling Green pulled out 11-2 advantage in the first game before Miami rattled off six unanswered points to pull within three, 8-11. The six-point run was highlighted by a Sara Uehlin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) service ace and kills by Mindy Clark (Solon, Ohio/Solon) and Erika Eagan (Bloomington, Ill./Tri-Valley). The Falcons, however, posted two more points before Summer Clouse (Tiffin, Ohio/Hopewell-Loudon) for Miami's ninth point to put the score at 13-9 in favor of BGSU. Consecutive kills by Susie Norris iced the first game for the Falcons, 15-9.
Again Bowling Green jumped out to an early lead, 7-2. And again Miami inched its way back into the second game, 10-11. This time, a service ace by Eagan and kills by Amy Pfohl (Toledo, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy), Karr and Jessica Rayburg (Arnold, Pa/Valley) helped the RedHawks chip away at the Falcon lead. Costly attack errors by Miami down the stretch allowed BGSU to take a 13-10 lead. Bowling Green's Kristin Gamby collected a kill BGSU's 14th point, and a service ace by Papageorgiou gave the Falcons a 2-0 lead with a 15-10 win in game two.
The onset of the third stanza was much different as Miami opened up a 9-1 advantage. Service aces by Eagan and McCullough along with kills by Poll sparked the RedHawks. Bowling Green responded to close the gap, 9-13. A kill by Poll gave Miami the 15-10 win to keep the match alive.
Game four was more of a back and forth battled. A McCullough service ace knotted the game, 7-7. Bowling Green then posted three unanswered points to take a 10-7 lead. Miami tried to play catch-up the rest of the match, but fell short, dropping the fourth game 10-15.
The RedHawks are off until next Friday when they play at Akron. Miami rounds out its regular season at Kent State on Saturday.
