DeKALB, Ill. (Oct. 25) - Miami University's volleyball team dropped its second straight Mid-American Conference road match in a three-game loss to Northern Illinois University in Chick Evans Field House Oct. 25.
Falling 6-15, 12-15 and 7-15, Miami droped to 8-14 overall and 4-7 in the MAC. Northern Illinois improved to 19-5 overall and 9-3 in league action.
Jessica Rayburg led Miami with 10 kills and three blocks.
The RedHawks kept it close in the early stages of the first game, only down 4-6. NIU, however, rattled off four unanswered points before Miami tallied its fifth and sixth points off a kill by Rayburg and a block by Jennifer Eaton and Erika Eagan. Northern Illinois went on to record the final five points to take game one, 15-6.
It was a back-and-forth battle in the second game. Miami held an 11-10 lead before the Huskies notched three straight points to take the 13-11 advantage. Amy Pfohl entered the game and served up a crucial ace to pull Miami to within one, 12-13. Northern Illinois recorded the final two points to capture the second game, 15-12.
In the third game, NIU opened up a 7-0 lead before Robyn Byrnes served up an ace for Miami's first point. A kill by Eaton followed to cut the Huskie lead to five. Later, an ace by Kelly McCullough put the game at 13-6. Northern Illinois answered, scoring a point to make the score 14-6. Miami, however, would not give up with match point on the line and scored its seventh point on a block. The Huskie lead was too much to overcome, though, as Miami fell in the third game 7-15.
