Volleyball Falls To Ohio, 3-1

ATHENS, Ohio (Oct. 21) - Miami (8-13; 4-6 MAC) dropped its first Mid-American Conference road match with a four-game loss at Ohio (16-7; 9-3 MAC), 15-11, 10-15, 9-15 and 10-15 on Oct. 21.
Jennifer Eaton paced Miami with 19 kills (.406 hitting), while Erika Eagan added 17 kills (.400).
In the opening game, Miami snapped a 7-7 tie with three straight points. After an Ohio point, the RedHawks rattled off three more in a row on Eaton's serve to lead 13-8. The Bobcats trimmed the deficit to 13-11, but Miami tallied the final two for a 15-11 victory.
Ohio rallied strong at the outset of the second game, taking a 10-1 lead. After the teams traded points for an 11-2 score, Miami used a 7-2 spurt to pull to within 13-9. However, a kill by Whitfield set up match point and after the RedHawks added a point to move to 14-10, the Bobcats evened the match with a 15-10 victory.
The Bobcats tallied the first four points of the third game, but Miami fought back to even the score at six. However, Ohio forged ahead with five straight points for an 11-6 lead, then answered back-to-back points with three in a row for a 14-8 lead. The RedHwaks fought off two straight game points, but Lori McColl served an ace after six sideouts and an MU point to seal the victory.
Miami opened the fourth game with a 4-0 run, but Ohio responded with six of the next seven points to open a 6-5 lead. Down 7-6, the Redhawks scored three straight points to lead move ahead 9-7, but a 6-0 run by the Bobcats pushed them back in front 13-9. Miami closed to 13-10 on an Eagan ace, but Whitfield served the final two points for the 15-10 victory.
Miami completes it current five-match road trip with a visit to Northern Illinois on Wednesday night.
