Foster earned three letters as a forward in basketball for Miami from 1965-68. He played on an MAC championship team his first year under coach Dick Shrider and played his last two years for Coach Tates Locke. His junior and senior seasons he was selected to the all-MAC first-team. He holds three Miami single-game records as he made 19 of 25 free throws against Ball State and attempted 36 field goals against Eastern Kentucky. While his 617 points his senior year ranks fourth on Miami's all-time list, his average of 26.8 points in 23 games ranks first.
His 43 points against Ball State in 1967 ties him for third-highest in Miami history. Ron Harper holds the single-game scoring mark with 45, followed by Dick Walls, 44, and John Powell, 43. Among Miami's career leaders, Foster ranks third in scoring average (18.8); seventh in free throw percentage (.765); 10th in field goal percentage (.484), and 12th in scoring (1,183).
Following graduation in 1968, Foster played professional basketball for 10 years in the NBA with Cincinnati, Cleveland and Buffalo. He died in 1985.
