Zach Hinsley finished his first season as the associate head coach for Miami swimming and diving in 2019-20. This was his third year at Miami as he served as an assistant coach the previous two seasons.
At the 2020 MAC Championships, the men finished second while the women finished fourth. The Miami men won three relays and three individual events during the championship meet as four athletes were named All-MAC First Team, seven athletes were named All-MAC Second Team and the RedHawks had the MAC Freshman Diver of the Year. On the women’s side, Camila Lins de Mello repeated as the 200 free MAC Champion as she was named All-MAC First Team and Hannah Fuchs was named All-MAC Second Team following the conclusion of the championship meet. In addition, three swimmers have qualified for the Olympic Trials this season.
Hinsley helped lead the men's team to the first MAC Championship since 2006, while the women's team finished fourth at the 2019 MAC Championships. A combined 10 athletes were named to the All-MAC First Team and nine were named to the All-MAC Second Team. Academically, a combined 31 athletes were named Academic All-MAC and eight were named MAC Distinguished Scholar Athletes.
Hinsley helped lead the men’s team to a third-place finish and the women’s team to a fourth-place finish at the 2018 MAC Championships. A combined four athletes were named All-MAC First Team, 10 were named All-MAC Second Team and 23 were named Academic All-MAC.
Hinsley comes to Oxford from Coral Gables, Florida, where he worked with the University of Miami’s women’s swimming and diving program along with Hurricane Aquatics. In addition to helping to train the student-athletes for the Hurricanes, he also handled logistics and set up along with meet operations during home meets. Miami set eight school records during the two seasons he worked with the program and during the 2016-17 season, the Hurricanes won their most dual meets since the 2009-10 campaign.
“Zach comes on board with the Miami RedHawks after spending time under the mentorship of Liz and Andy Kershaw,” Bonewit-Cron said. “The experience he gained from both Hurricane Aquatics and the University of Miami will help transition him immediately into his role with the RedHawks. I am excited about Zach's arrival to Miami University and having him work closely with our student-athletes in the academic and athletic arenas. I am confident in his abilities and look forward to our collaboration.”
Over his time with Hurricane Aquatics, Hinsley served as the head age group coach last year after serving as an assistant coach from 2013-16. He planned the season for two age group programs along with masters swimmers. He also served as the camp director of the program from 2014-17.
Hinsley’s notable accomplishments include working with three-time Olympic medalist, two-time world record holder and 14-time national champion Katie Hoff. He also helped mentor a pair of 2016 Olympic Trials Qualifiers (Angela Algee and Christina Leander), with Algee also qualifying for the NCAA Championships twice. He also helped mentor Heather Arseth, a 2016 Olympian for Mauritius along with World Championship and Southeast Asian Games qualifier Roxanne Yu. Another notable performer was Manon Viguier, who placed fourth in the 200-yard freestyle at the 2016 French World Championship Trials.
Hinsley earned a bachelor of arts in psychology from the University of Miami in 2015.
