Katey Nyquist enters her second season as the head coach of Miami University’s varsity synchronized skating program in 2025-26. Nyquist became the third coach in program history when she was hired in March 2024.

In her first season at the helm, Miami's collegiate team claimed first place at three consecutive events to end the year, culminating with the team's fourth straight (and 23rd overall) national title at the 2025 U.S. National Synchronized Skating Championships. Miami's senior team represented the United States as a member of Team USA at two international competitions and then capped the season with a silver medal at the U.S. Championships, as the RedHawks posted season-high scores in both the short and free programs at nationals.

Nyquist brings a variety of coaching experience to Miami, including serving as a head coach within the Denver Synchronicity organization, as well as the assistant director of its skating academy, at her previous stop. Nyquist worked with Denver Synchronicity teams to add choreography and components to their programs. She also created and executed a comprehensive skills and drills program for all levels within the organization. In addition to skating for the Haydenettes, Nyquist served as an assistant coach for Hayden Synchro’s developmental teams for two years. She has been a private coach for students of all ages and levels, helping to foster a passion for skating.

A decorated skater in her own right, Nyquist was a five-time national champion, World Team member, and 2016 World bronze medalist while skating at the senior level with the Haydenettes Synchronized Skating Team from 2015-2020. She is a USFS Triple Gold Medalist in Moves in the Field, Freestyle, and Ice Dance. Nyquist also skated one season with the Lexettes, earning a national silver medal and earning a spot in the Junior World Championships. She has been involved in synchronized skating since a young age and was part of Denver Synchronicity’s intermediate, junior, and senior teams before her time with the Hayden Synchro organization.

Additionally, she was a U.S. Figure Skating DREAM Skater during her competitive career and has been a member of its Giving Programs Committee since 2020.

Nyquist earned a bachelor’s degree in information design and corporate communications from Bentley University in 2018. She also earned a teaching residency certification from the Public Education and Business Coalition in Denver, Colo., in 2022 where she earned Resident of the Year distinction. Nyquist served as a resident teacher and support teacher at Graland Country Day School in Denver from 2021-2024.
