John Hauser begins his eighth year as the cornerbacks coach and is in his sixth year as the co-defensive coordinator for the RedHawks.

His first year with Miami was a memorable one, as he helped coach Quinten Rollins, who was a four-year letter-winner on the Miami Basketball team and joined the football team in April for Spring practices. Eight months later Rollins finished the year with seven interceptions and a MAC Defensive Player of the Year Award. He would later go on to be drafted in the second round of the NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers.

Since then Hauser has continued to produce All-MAC talent. Heath Harding was a two-time All-MAC honoree, capturing first team All-MAC honors in 2017. In 2019 Emmanuel Rugama was named third team All-MAC and the MAC Championship Defensive Player of the Game. Rugamba also earned All-MAC in 2019 and 2020.

Hauser's defense was special in 2019, leading the conference by allowing just 175.9 yards passing per game. Since 2016, Miami's pass defense has ranked top-5 among MAC schools each year.

Prior to Miami, Hauser spent two seasons at The Citadel in charge of the Bulldog safeties and has 10 years of experience coaching the defensive back position.

While at The Citadel, Hauser was responsible for the development of Nick Willis, who as a true freshman, earned a spot of the Southern Conference All-Freshman Team.

Prior to The Citadel, Hauser was the defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach at Wayne State University for four seasons and spent two months as director of player personnel at the University of Illinois before his return to coaching led him to The Citadel.

While at Wayne State, Hauser oversaw a unit that finished in the top-10 nationally in Division II in scoring defense and produced four all-conference defensive backs and a pair of All-Americans. With Hauser playing an integral role, the Warriors turned the corner from being a program with no prior history of success into one which twice set school records for most wins in a season and advanced to the NCAA Division II title game in 2011.

In addition to his responsibilities managing the Wayne State defense, Hauser also worked with the special teams, primarily the punt, punt return, kickoff and field goal block units, and coordinated recruiting efforts in Michigan and parts of Ohio.

Prior to joining the Wayne State program, Hauser spent five seasons at Northern Illinois. Hauser was a graduate assistant for the Huskies from 2003-05 before earning a fulltime position on the staff as defensive backs coach in 2006.

He was part of a coaching staff that led Northern Illinois to three straight Mid-American Conference Western Division championships and three bowl appearances. Hauser also spent eight months on the coaching staff at his alma mater, Wittenberg University in Ohio, before accepting an offer to go Northern Illinois.

Hauser was a four-year starter at safety at Wittenberg and served as a team captain his junior and senior seasons. He was named to the all-conference team three times and earned a spot on the Division III All-America team in 2002. In his four years at Wittenberg the team combined to finish 40-6 overall.

Hauser earned his bachelor's degree in business management from Wittenberg and a master's degree in adult and higher education from Northern Illinois. He and his wife, Seanna, are the parents of a daughter (McKenna) and son (John Jr./"JJ").
