All three RedHawks finished in the top-five in total sacks among its MAC peers. Miami's pressure upfront was a catalyst in the RedHawks dominance on defense. This past season, Brown was part of a defensive staff that finished third in the MAC in scoring defense (18.8), total defense (331.4), rushing defense (137.1) and pass defense (194.3). Miami was the top red zone defense in the league and forced 23 turnovers. Miami also produced 29 sacks, despite featuring several new starters along the defensive front. Brown also helped Brian Ugwu earn first-team All-MAC honors, while Corey Suttle was honored with second-team All-MAC accolades.

Prior to joining Miami, he spent the past two season at South Dakota, where the Coyotes recorded 52 sacks under his watch.

Prior to South Dakota, he coached the defensive line at Cornell College in 2020 and before that, spent the 2018 and 2019 seasons at Rutgers. In just two years, Brown mentored six players who earned academic all-Big Ten status. In 2019, his lone senior on the defensive line, Wil Previlon, earned honorable mention all-Big Ten honors, was named Rutgers’ defensive MVP, and signed with the Green Bay Packers as a free agent.

Prior to joining the Scarlet Knights, Brown was Miami’s defensive line coach for four years with Coach Martin. In his time, Miami registered 89 sacks and produced four All-MAC players and helped JT Jones earn a free agent deal with the Atlanta Falcons.

Brown’s coaching career started in 2006 at North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City where he served as defensive line and strength and conditioning coach. He served in the same capacity at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs from 2009-11. Brown was also a graduate assistant at Notre Dame from 2012-13.

Brown hails from Houston, Texas. He competed for the Iowa Hawkeyes from 1995-99 and started all 11 games at defensive tackle his senior year en route to earning the team’s defensive hustle award. Upon graduation from Iowa, Brown played five years on the defensive and offensive line for the Quad City Steamwheelers where he won back-to-back AFL2 championships.
