Miami Athletics Receives Tremendous Support on #GivingTuesday
On #GivingTuesday, December 1, Miami Athletics raised over $75,000 from over 110 gifts made that day. This is the first year the department capitalized on #GivingTuesday and Athletics received tremendous support.
#GivingTuesday was created with a simple idea in mind: encourage people to do good. Since then, it has become a global tradition that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate and celebrate generosity every year. This year Miami Athletics channeled the core traditions of Love and Honor by raising funds for the newly created Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Fund, while also receiving support for scholarships and athletic programs.
Between #GivingTuesday and #MoveInMiami, the Miami Athletics Diversity, Equity and Inclusion fund received over $12,000 from donors. This fund will train, equip and empower Miami student-athletes to be leaders on campus and in the community. “It shows our commitment to what we’ve told the student-athletes, that we’re going to hear their voice and we’re going to listen, help and assist them,” Director of Athletics David Sayler said. “I think it reaffirms that and shows them that we’re in it together.” In addition to the the funds raised for the Miami Athletics Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Fund on #GivingTuesday, Miami Athletics received $50,000 for scholarship support and over $20,000 in programmatic support.
All gifts to Miami Athletics on #GivingTuesday allow our student-athletes to graduate as champions.
