A potent scoring threat for the Red and White from 1979-83, Rick Kuraly '83 continues to own several Miami hockey records. Playing on some of the first varsity hockey teams, Kuraly is Miami's career record holder for goals (101), power-play goals (36) and hat-tricks (9). He ranks third in career points with 179. In addition to his career numbers, Kuraly also owns Miami single-game records for goals in a game (5) and for fastest goal at the start of a period (0:07) and ties for the longest scoring streak, scoring at least one point in 17 consecutive games. In his final three seasons, Kuraly led the team in goals each season and was the team co-leader in points as a junior. He also continues to rank among Miami's top-10 in single-season goals. A four-year letterwinner for the Red and White, Kuraly also earned Academic All-CCHA honorable mention honors as a senior.
From 1988-91, Hamilton Munnell '92 amassed 100 wins as a wrestler for the Red and White. One of six wrestlers in Miami history to win three consecutive MAC individual championships, Munnell captured titles at the 190-pound weight class in 1989, 1990 and 1991 to earn trips to the NCAA Championships each year. As a junior, Munnell placed seventh at the NCAA Championships to seize All-America honors. He spearheaded Miami to a MAC Championship in his final season in 1991, the first team title for the Red and White since 1984. A four-year letterwinner and two-time captain (1990, 1991), Munnell was selected the Outstanding Wrestler at the 1991 MAC Championships. He then served as an assistant coach in 1992 as Miami captured its second straight MAC team title. As a freshman, he placed second in the 190-pound weight class at the MAC Championships and was also named to the Amateur Wrestling Freshman All-Star Team.
A decorated pitcher for the RedHawk softball team from 2002-05, Jackie Poggendorf '05 led Miami to its first MAC Tournament Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance as a senior in 2005. Poggendorf captured third-team all-region honors and was a three-time All-MAC selection, earning first-team distinction in 2005. She was twice named the MAC Tournament MVP (2003, 2005) and was tabbed Miami's Female Co-Athlete of the Year as a senior in 2005. Poggendorf placed her name on every single-season and career pitching top-10 list and finished her career owning four pitching records. She currently ranks second all-time in wins (63), appearances (148), starts (106), innings pitched (793.0) and strikeouts (672). A four-year letterwinner, Poggendorf helped Miami to three straight MAC Tournament appearances (2003, 2004, 2005).
After a brilliant sophomore campaign in 1963 where he captured an individual MAC cross country title and went on to earn All-America honors with a seventh-place finish at the NCAA Championships, Andy Schramm '67 was hindered by mononucleosis and a series of other illnesses that took him out of running for two years. His return was nothing short of inspiring as he again won the MAC individual cross country crown in 1966 and helped set varsity records in the four-mile and distance medley relays in outdoor track in 1967 and the distance medley in indoor track earlier that season. Prior to competing at the varsity level, Schramm won the MAC freshman cross country meet and was the American freshman record holder for the two-mile run. He lettered twice in cross country and twice in track for the Red and White. Schramm is being inducted posthumously.
Playing in 114 men's basketball games from 1988-92, David Scott '06 finished his career as Miami's fourth all-time leading scorer with 1,410 points, which currently ranks 11th among Miami leaders. Despite making just eight career starts, Scott's impact on the floor was impressive, leading Miami in scoring for three seasons and twice earning first-team All-MAC plaudits (1991, 1992). Heading into his final season, Scott was the nation's leading scorer as a sixth man. Scott spearheaded Miami to MAC regular-season and tournament titles as a senior in 1992. He drained the game-winning shot with 10 seconds remaining to lift Miami to its second MAC tourney crown and was named to the 1992 MAC All-Tournament Team. A four-year letterwinner, Scott went on to a professional basketball career that spanned 13 years in Europe and South America.
John Van Scoyoc '89 ran for Miami from 1985-89 and was a two-time All-American, earning the honors in cross country in 1986 after a 31st-place finish at the NCAA Championships and in 1989 in track after a seventh-place finish in the 10,000 meters at the national meet. As a freshman, he was Miami's top finisher to lead the Red and White to the 1985 MAC Cross Country title and a team berth in the NCAA Championships. Van Scoyoc was tabbed the Ohio Cross Country Runner of the Year in 1987 and was an NCAA qualifier three times. In track, Van Scoyoc won the 5,000 meter run at the 1988 MAC Championships as a junior and was the runner up in the 10,000 meters in 1987 and in the 5,000 meters and 3,000 meter steeplechase in 1989. He twice qualified for the NCAA Championships in track. Over his career, Van Scoyoc was a four-time All-MAC selection in both cross country and track and lettered four times in each sport.
A standout four-year starter at defensive back for the Red and White from 1984-87, Sheldon White '91 was named first-team All-MAC his final two seasons before being selected in the third round of the National Football League draft by the New York Giants. As a player at Miami, he helped the Red and White to a MAC Championship in 1986 and the team's first bowl appearance in more than 10 years. Following his senior season, White earned a starting spot in the 1988 Senior Bowl. In addition to a stellar football career, White also was a sprinter on the Miami track and field team for four years and was a part of the second-fastest 4x100 meter relay time in school history at the time. White went on to a six-year playing career in the NFL. He continues his affiliation with the NFL and is in his 18th year with the Detroit Lions, currently serving as Vice President of Pro Personnel.
