ABOUT US
The Miami University Spirit Program consist of a coed cheer team comprised of 24-30 male and female athletes (12-15 couples), as well as a small team of mascot members. The cheerleading program is a fully funded program under the Athletics Department which competes in the MAC, Mid-American Conference, in all Varsity sports except for Hockey, which competes in the MHLC. The Miami University Spirit Program is supported by the Miami University Athletics Department in the areas of Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, and Equipment.
The cheerleaders and Swoop are a vital part of game day, ambassadors of the University and are active in the Oxford community throughout the year making them one of the most visible groups on campus.
The team can be seen at various sporting events including…
- Football – Home & Away (A select few athletes will have the opportunity to travel to away and post-game play)
- Men’s & Women’s Basketball – Home (A select few athletes will have the opportunity to travel to away and post-game play)
- Volleyball – Select home matches
UCA NATIONALS
For the first time in over 20 years, the program returned to the competition mat in 2019. Our goal is to continue to grow competitively and compete annually at the UCA College Cheerleading National Championships in Orlando, Florida in two divisions. D1A Large Coed and D1A Coed Game Day. 9 males and 7 females make up the Large Coed Team and are selected by the coaching staff to represent the university in this division based on skill level. We values every cheerleader in our program and want to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to compete for a national title. Our entire program competes in the Game Day division. Nationals is NOT funded by the athletics program and all expenses are covered by the team through yearly team sponsorships and other required fundraising initiatives throughout the year.
