Creech, Smith Named Miami Athletes of the Week

For their performances last week, Molly Creech and Scoop Smith are Miami's Athletes of the Week, presented by Skyline Chili for the week of September 7.
Female Winner: Molly Creech
Molly Creech recorded 4.27 kills per set while maintaining a .269 hitting percentage to help the RedHawks win the Miami/Best Western Invitational, which included victories over Evansville, Kansas City and Purdue Fort Wayne. In total, the outside hitter had 47 kills, four service aces and one assist offensively. She also added 37 digs and a block on defense. Creech was named the Miami/Best Western Invitational MVP for her play over the weekend. A sophomore from Cincinnati, Ohio, she is studying Finance in the Farmer School of Business.
Male Winner: Scoop Smith
Scoop Smith, the shortest player in D1 football, opened last Saturday's contest with a 55-yard kickoff return. He later connected on a 30-yard catch and was tackled inside the Pitt 1-yard line, setting up Miami's first touchdown of the game. Smith finished the contest with three catches for 50 yards and added three returns for 107 yards. A freshman from Pittsburgh, Pa., he is double majoring in Marketing in the Farmer School of Business and Sport Management in the College of Education, Health and Society.
