RedHawks to Face Nebraska at Arrowhead Stadium in 2027

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – This morning, Arrowhead Events, the special events arm of the Kansas City Chiefs, announced Arrowhead Stadium – home of the Chiefs – will serve as host for the week one matchup between the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Miami RedHawks on Friday, Aug. 27.
Originally scheduled to be played at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, Nebraska, on Sept. 11, the move comes after the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) Oversight Committee made changes to the playing calendar allowing schools to play matchups a week earlier. The matchup marks the first time Nebraska and Miami will face off. The teams are slated to face off again during the 2031 season.

"Arrowhead Stadium has a long history of hosting premier sporting and entertainment events, and we are proud to kick off the 2027 college football season with a marquee matchup. We are grateful to the University of Nebraska for once again choosing Kansas City and Arrowhead Stadium as the stage for one of its contests. We look forward to welcoming the passionate Cornhuskers fanbase back to Kansas City and introducing Miami University's RedHawks fans to the unforgettable atmosphere and exceptional gameday experience of Arrowhead Stadium."
"Our fans and team enjoyed the game in Kansas City a year ago, and shortly after that contest we began having discussions with the Chiefs about returning to Arrowhead," Nebraska Deputy AD/Chief Operating Officer Haven Fields said. "The 2027 schedule provided an opportunity to play a game in another great venue while Memorial Stadium is at a reduced capacity, while maintaining seven games in Lincoln for our fans."
The 2027 season opener will be the RedHawks first matchup played in Kansas City.
"I'm excited for our student-athletes to participate on a national stage and for our fans to have the chance to watch Miami football inside an NFL stadium," Miami Director of Athletics David Sayler said. "A huge thank you to everyone at Nebraska and Arrowhead Stadium that made this incredible opportunity possible."
Arrowhead Stadium has a deep history hosting marquee college football matchups throughout its history, including the Dr. Pepper Big 12 Championship five times (2000, 2003-04, 2006, 2008), the acclaimed "Border Showdown" between rivals Missouri and Kansas from 2007-11, and Iowa State's and Kansas State annual "Farmageddon" showdown in 2009 and 2010. During the 2024 season while the program's home field underwent major renovations, the University of Kansas played its home slate at Arrowhead Stadium. Additionally, Arrowhead hosted the Division II "Fall Classic" featuring programs from the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) from 2002-13 and in 2019. In total, Arrowhead Stadium has hosted 44 college football matchups across all divisions.
