CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference recognized its annual Medal of Excellence Award winners during the 2025 Honors Dinner Ceremony in Cleveland on Thursday, May 29. Miami's Catherine Denysiewicz-Slowek and Zach Bann were among the honorees.
Â
The Medal of Excellence is presented annually to one male and one female student-athlete from the graduating class of each of the 12 Conference member institutions.
Â
Denysiewicz-Slowek, a senior on the tennis team from Drummondville, Quebec, graduated with a 3.77 GPA in Marketing. She earned two MAC regular-season team championship rings, captured the inaugural MAC Singles Championship last fall and was named MAC Player of the Year this spring.
Bann, a senior in the swimming and diving program from Austin, Texas, earned a degree in Sport Leadership and Management with a 3.79 GPA. He was part of four conference championship teams during his time at Miami, including three in the Mid-American Conference.
Â
"These Medal of Excellence recipients truly embody what it means to be a MAC student-athlete," said MAC Commissioner Jon Steinbrecher. "Their accomplishments in the classroom and in competition, along with their leadership and community involvement, reflect their outstanding character and dedication. We are honored to recognize them and the meaningful difference they make both on campus and beyond."
Â
To receive the Medal of Excellence Award, student-athletes must have participated at the varsity level in a Conference-sponsored sport, maintained a minimum 3.50 cumulative GPA, and demonstrated excellence in athletics, leadership, and service. Honorees are selected by their respective institutions.
