
Denysiewicz-Slowek, Baker Named Miami Athletes of Week

For their performances last week, Catherine Denysiewicz-Slowek and Dillon Baker are Miami's Athletes of the Week, presented by Skyline Chili for the week of April 14.

Female Winner: Catherine Denysiewicz-Slowek
Miami Tennis' Catherine Denysiewicz-Slowek picked up two singles wins on the week, building on her undefeated regular season and making her 9-0 in MAC play. She defeated Toledo 6-1, 6-4 on Friday and WMU 6-2, 6-1 on Sunday. Catherine also went 2-0 this week in doubles play while paired with Malu Oliveira. The duo beat Toledo 6-4 and WMU 6-0. Denysiewicz-Slowek's efforts helped the RedHawks clinch first place in the East Division and a berth in the upcoming MAC Tournament. Denysiewicz-Slowek is a senior Marketing major in the Farmer School of Business from Drummondville, Quebec.

Male Winner: Dillon Baker
Dillon Baker hit .412 this week between a midweek game against Xavier in the Joe Nuxhall Classic and three conference games versus Kent State. Baker had seven hits, including four doubles and four RBIs, and extended his hitting streak to seven games. On Sunday, he ripped his eighth home run of the season to give Miami a 4-0 lead over Kent State en route to a 9-7 victory. Baker's stellar offense led Miami to win its sixth consecutive MAC series, taking two of three from Kent State. Baker, a redshirt senior from Tampa, Fla., is studying Sport Management in the College of Education, Health and Society.
