Hawks Seize Second at Ross Collegiate After Day One

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. — Miami golf has sole possession of second place out of 16 teams by three strokes after day one of the Donald Ross Collegiate Classic hosted by George Mason University. Three RedHawks finished in the top ten out of an individual field of 100, including freshman Morgan Blythe, who is tied for second individually.

The RedHawks will look to stay on the podium during the tournament's third and final round beginning tomorrow with a 9:15 a.m. shotgun start.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Blythe shot back-to-back 70s to finish four below par through two rounds. He shot eight total birdies, including five birdies in round two, to put himself just two strokes behind first place.
- Danny Fisher finished two-below par on the day, a score highlighted by a 68 in round two. Fisher was one of two RedHawks to shoot an eagle, which happened on the par five fifth hole. He moved up more than twenty places during the second round and is tied for fifth place individually.
- Michael Weber finished the day at one-over par after shooting a 75 in round one and a 70 in round two. Weber made six total birdies and recorded an eagle on hole number six, a par five, during the tournament's second round. He is tied for 16th overall.
- Scott Bitar shot two-over par through two rounds. His efforts included shooting a 69 in round two by making five birdies. This lifted him into the top-25 individually.
- Matthew Mattioli finished three above par and ended the day in the top-third of participants, shooting a 74 in round one and a 73 in round two. Mattioli had seven total birdies.
- Brett Podobinski, who competed as an individual, also cracked the top ten, tying for eighth overall with a two-round score of one below par. Podobinski shot a 69 in round one, which included five birdies.
- Cameron Pero also competed as an individual. He shot two above par to finish in the top 25 and made seven total birdies throughout the day.
- The RedHawks team score came in at 570 (six under par), which is three strokes ahead of third place Old Dominion University and five strokes behind first place Loyola Maryland.
