OXFORD, Ohio– The Miami University football team defeated Central Michigan 46-7 Saturday afternoon to give head coach Chuck Martin his record-breaking 60th victory with the program. The RedHawks scored 43 unanswered points to win their third straight game and help Martin move past Randy Walker into sole possession of first place in program history for career wins.

Dom Dzioban set a Yager Stadium record with five made field goals for the RedHawks (4-4, 3-1 MAC), who scored on 10 of their 11 possessions. Keyon Mozee rushed for 120 yards and Javon Tracy caught five passes for 118 yards to lead the Red and White. The Chippewas fall to 3-5, 1-3 MAC.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The RedHawks took a 3-0 lead on their first possession of the game with a Dzioban 31-yard field goal. Tracy caught three passes on the drive, including splitting a trio of would-be tacklers on a 41-yard reception to move the ball into the red zone.
After Central Michigan went ahead with an eight-minute, 15-play touchdown drive, Miami came right back with a score to go ahead 10-7. A 72-yard burst by Mozee, the longest of his career, set the RedHawks up inside the CMU 10. Henry Hesson then connected with Reggie Virgil on a third-down scoring strike from nine yards out to put the Red and White on top.
Miami added a 22-yard field goal on its next possession to go ahead 13-7 with 6:29 left in the half, capitalizing on a key 4th-and-1 conversion by Dylan Downing to keep the scoring drive alive.
The RedHawks stretched the lead to 16-7 on a Dzioban field goal with one second remaining before intermission, finishing off a 10-play, 67-yard drive.
Matt Salopek started the third quarter with back-to-back tackles for loss to force a Chippewa three-and-out, and Miami took over in CMU territory after a short punt. The RedHawks capitalized on the good field position, as Dzioban buried a career-long 51-yard kick to extend Miami's advantage to 19-7 at the 9:19 mark.
Brett Gabbert and the RedHawk offense only needed three pass attempts on the next drive to find the end zone. Completions to Virgil and Cade McDonald set up a 36-yard scoring pass to Tracy with 7:34 to play in the third quarter for a 26-7 lead.
With 13:25 remaining, Dzioban tacked on a 44-yard field goal, his fifth of the afternoon, to make the score 29-7.
After Miami forced its fourth three-and-out of the day, Kevin Davis ripped off a 60-yard carry and followed that with a two-yard touchdown run on the next snap for a 36-7 cushion.
Jordan Brunson broke a career-long 75-yard run to the CMU three-yard line on the RedHawks' next possession and found the end zone one play later to put Miami ahead 43-7.
Christian Schomer made his first career interception to get the ball back for the Red and White, and Kellan McLaughlin converted his first career field goal from 41 yards out in the last minute of the game to account for the final score.

Miami out-gained CMU 518-168.
Dzioban's five field goals matches the school record for field goals in a game, set back in 2008 at Ohio.
Mozee produced his third consecutive 100-yard game and his fourth of the season.
Miami's 39-point margin of victory was its largest ever against Central Michigan (previously 38 in a 59-21 win on Nov. 1, 1986).
Following the 75-yard first-quarter touchdown drive by CMU, the Chippewas managed just 93 yards on 38 plays the rest of the contest (2.4 yards per play).
Three different RedHawks had runs of at least 60 yards in the game as Miami racked up 277 yards on 39 attempts (7.1 yards per carry).
Gabbert finished 10-of-12 passing for 165 yards and a score, while Hesson added a career-best 76 passing yards and threw his first career touchdown pass.
Virgil caught his fifth touchdown pass of the season.
The RedHawks honored 26 seniors before the game.
