CLEVELAND, Ohio – Following a 31-24 win over Cincinnati, the Miami University football team swept the Mid-American Conference East Division weekly awards. Brett Gabbert captured MAC East Offensive Player of the Week, while Matt Salopek was named East Division Defensive Player of the Week and Alec Bevelhimer walked away with Special Teams Player of the Week honors.
Gabbert completed 12 passes for 237 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for a career-best 75 yards in the overtime win versus the Bearcats. Gabbert and the RedHawks captured the program's first win over a Big-12 program and helped reclaim the Victory Bell for the first time since 2005.
Salopek recorded a career-high 18 tackles and was part of a defense unit that allowed eight red zone trips, but surrendered just 24 points. Three different times the Bearcats had a first-and-goal and came away with no points.
Bevelhimer, a two-time MAC Player of the Week honoree in 2023, averaged 52.0 yards on four punts last Saturday. He had two punts travel 60-plus yards, including a career-best 63-yarder. He downed three kicks inside the opponent's 20-yard line and allowed no return yards.
Miami returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 23 versus Delaware State in the 2023 home opener.
