Miami University head swimming and diving coach Hollie Bonewit-Cron has announced Kile Aukerman will be joining Miami as an assistant coach beginning this season.Â
"I am thrilled to have Kile onboard with our program and work with our student-athletes. He brings a wealth of knowledge with having worked previously at Ohio State and Auburn, respectively," said Bonewit-Cron. "We are excited to have him on staff as we continue the success with our program!"
Aukerman graduated from Wright State University with a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences. While attending Wright State, he was a varsity swimmer who was a team captain from 2013-15 and was named the team's MVP in 2014 and 2015. During his time competing, he set six program records and was also voted the Wright State Athlete of the Year in 2015. After graduating from Wright State, he spent time with the South Florida Aquatic Club. In 2015 he was a U.S. National Qualifier for the 100 and 200 Breast. While in 2016, he was a U.S. Olympic Trials Qualifier in the 100 breast, 200 breast and 200 IM.Â
Aukerman went on to be the lead age group coach and the director of social media for the Triangle Aquatic Center (TAC) in Cary, North Carolina. While working for TAC, they won back-to-back sectional age group championships (2019 and 2020) and he helped continue the streak of being eight-time North Carolina age group champions. Aukerman's athletes broke eight national age group records during his time with TAC. He also coached 2021 Olympian Claire Curzan in the 100 butterfly.
In the 2021-22 season, Aukerman spent time with Ohio State as a Volunteer Assistant and Interim Director of Operations. During his time with the Buckeyes, he helped lead the team to a 2022 Women's Big Ten Championship and a top-10 finish at the NCAA Championships for both the men's and women's programs. Before leaving, he helped produce 22 NCAA qualifiers, 14 First-Team All-Americans, 13 Big Ten Champions and 12 new program records.Â
Aukerman most recently served as a Graduate Assistant with Auburn University in the 2022-23 season. In his season with the Tigers, he helped produce 21 NCAA qualifiers and 17 SEC Championship finalists. The men finished as the SEC runner-ups in 2023 and came in 10th place at the NCAA Championships, a 105-point increase from the previous year.
"I am extremely excited to be joining the Miami University Swimming and Diving staff. This is an esteemed institution to be a part of, and Hollie and her team are committed to sustained excellence," said Aukerman. "I want to extend my gratitude to Hollie, Jake, Noah and Jason for their warm welcome and trust in me to work with these exceptional athletes. I am eager to get to work and learn from some of the most talented athletes and coaches in the country! Go RedHawks!"
