Former Miami University player and head coach, Tom Reed, passed away on Monday, Sept. 26, 2022. He was 77 years old.
Â
Reed earned three letters with the Miami football program from 1964-66, helping the Red and White to Mid-American Conference Co-Championships in 1965 and 1966. In all, Miami was 22-7-1 in Reed's three years as a student-athlete with the program.
Â
After graduation, Reed went on to serve as an assistant coach with Miami (1967-68), Akron (1969-72), Arizona (1973) and Michigan (1974-77) before being named Miami's head coach in 1978.
Â
In five years at the helm of the Miami program (1978-82), Reed recorded a 34-19-2 record and still ranks 10th in school history in career wins. Miami downed North Carolina (7-3) in 1978 and added another Power-5 win a year later over Kentucky (15-14) under Reed's guidance.
