
Gabbert Named to Maxwell Award Watch List

Brett Gabbert, a three-year starter for the Miami University football team, has been named to the Preseason Maxwell Award Watch List, given annually to the nation's top college football player.

Last season Gabbert earned third-team All-MAC accolades, throwing for 2,648 yards and 26 touchdowns in 10 starts. The junior, who was also named Academic All-MAC, threw just six interceptions in 299 attempts.

He recorded 492 passing yards (third-most in school history) to go along with five touchdowns at Ohio and finished with 351 passing yards and four scores in a win over Buffalo. His 843 passing yards in consecutive games was the most in a two-game span in program history.

With two years of eligibility remaining, Gabbert ranks in the top 10 in five different passing categories in Miami history: completions (376, 9th), attempts (650, 9th), passing yards (5,443, 7th), completion percentage (.579, 7th) and touchdown passes (41, 7th).

The Maxwell Award has been presented to the College Player of the Year since 1937 and is named in honor of Robert "Tiny" Maxwell who was a former standout at the Swarthmore College and a renowned sports writer and football official. This year will be the 86th anniversary of the award.

Semifinalists for the Maxwell Award will be announced November 1, 2022, while the three finalists for the Maxwell Award will be unveiled November 22, 2022. The winners of the 86th Maxwell Award will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show held on December 8, 2022. The formal presentations of the Maxwell Award will be made at the Maxwell Football Club Awards live from Atlantic City, NJ on March 10, 2023.
