Brindtha Ramasamy wins at first singles in her return to the lineup.
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Miami RedHawks struck first and found some success at the top of the singles lineup, but ultimately the RedHawks would fall 4-2 to the host Indiana Hoosiers on Sunday.
Miami falls to 4-7 on the season, while Indiana is 10-7.
The 'Hawks took the match's first point in doubles with wins on courts two and three. Milana Lysova and Makenzie Myers combined for 6-4 win at second doubles, while Lena Babunski and Melati Devi won 7-5 on court three. Brindtha Ramasamy and Laura Rico also held a lead at first doubles when the point was clinched.
Moving to singles, Indiana did tie the match with a quick win on court six, but Ramasamy, in her return to the Miami lineup after a few weeks out, gave the advantage back to the RedHawks. She defeated Indiana's number one Caitlin Bernard in straight sets by a score of 7-5, 6-1 to make it 2-1 Miami. However, from there the tides would turn as the Hoosiers claimed the next three points with wins on courts 3-5 to earn the requisite four points for the victory.
Rico had her match left unfinished on court two. After falling in the first set, she won the second and then held a lead in set three before the match was called.
The RedHawks will next begin their title defense in the Mid-American Conference as conference play opens in two weeks. Miami will start the MAC slate with a match at Ball State on Sunday, March 22.
