MIAMI ATHLETICS RECREATING ITS NIGHT FOR RED AND WHITE AUCTION GALA TO A VIRTUAL EXPERIENCE; INVITES ATTENDEES TO STAY “in” AND COME TOGETHER AS A COMMUNITY
OXFORD, Ohio – Miami University Athletics and the Miami Athletic Fund are adjusting in the midst of a rapidly evolving public health crisis of COVID-19 that has resulted in the suspension of professional and collegiate sporting events across the country. Rather than cancel its second A Night for Red and White auction gala, the group is moving it to a virtual event and recasting it as A Night "in" for Red and White, encouraging Miamians to come together as a community during this challenging time.
"We understand the critical importance of following the safety measures that have been established by the federal and state government as well as the university leadership," said David Sayler, director of athletics at Miami University. "During this difficult time we hope Miamians can virtually come together so we can celebrate our supporters and our student-athletes and be together in spirit if not in person. I want to thank our event sponsors and individual supporters with whom our Miami Athletic Fund staff has been in contact with over the last several days. Their response has been overwhelmingly positive through this challenging time and it says so much about the Miami community really has. We are really a family"
A Night "in" for Red and White will take place on April 17 and will showcase a virtual experience featuring a streamed production with coach and celebrity interviews, inspiring impact videos and much more from Miami student-athletes. There will also be live interactions on social media with appearances Miamians throughout, as well as several incredible auction items and experiences for bidding. All proceeds will help address emergency and unprecedented needs for Miami student-athletes facing unforeseen circumstances due to the current COVID-19-crisis.
"Moving to a virtual event allows us to engage with our supporters, while staying 'in' and keeping everyone safe," said Senior Associate AD and Assistant VP Jon Schemmel. "We understand the magnitude of the crisis going on around the world right now, we are also seeing the power of community and coming together. We believe it is important to connect with each, especially in this challenging time. If nothing else, perhaps we can provide a welcome distraction for Miamians to come together on Friday, April 17."
A Night "in" for Red and White is presented by the Blavatnik Family Foundation. Other virtual event sponsors are Cynthia and Dave Arnholt, Mastery Logistics, American Axle and Manufacturing, College Sports Solutions, Enterprise, The Kolodesh Family Foundation and Van Wagner Sports and Entertainment. A full list of virtual table and seat sponsors can be found at the event website and will continually be updated as we progress.
The auction website is live and available for registration and viewing, and it will continue to be updated with additional auction items. Please contact the Miami Athletic Fund staff at 513-529-0422 or MiamiAthleticFund@MiamiOH.edu for more information. Stay tuned for more details about the virtual event and livestream activities on April 17. The event will begin at 7:00 pm EST.
