The RedHawks go to 1-1 after a 6-1 victory yesterday.
FORT MYERS, Fla. - After a season-opening victory Friday, the second leg of Miami's Florida trip would not be as fruitful as the RedHawks (1-1) dropped a 6-1 decision to the Liberty Flames (1-0) in Fort Myers on Friday.
The doubles session started in a promising manner for the 'Hawks, as the tandem of Lena Babunski and Brindtha Ramasamy took a 6-4 victory to give Miami the inside track on the doubles point. However, two close matches would both go Liberty's way and the Flames took a 1-0 lead.
All six singles matches would end in straight sets, and unfortunately for the 'Hawks, only one of them would end in Miami's favor. After Liberty claimed a decisive victory on court one, Priyana Kalita provided MU with its only point of the day as she defeated Liberty's Saraty 6-1, 6-4 on court six to bring the score to 2-1. That would be the closest Miami would get in the match, as LU would take the remaining matches to earn the 6-1 win.
The RedHawks will continue their difficult start to the non-conference schedule on Monday with a road match at Purdue.
