The 2019 football season is the 150th anniversary of college football. Here at MiamiRedHawks.com, we will honor some of the all-time greats to play for Miami University as well as those that have made an impact at Miami since their graduation. We caught up with Sherman Smith to hear about the memories he made while wearing the Red and White.Â
Smith earned four letters as a quarterback and helped Miami compile a four-year record of 39-4-1, including three MAC championships and three Tangerine Bowl titles over Florida, Georgia and South Carolina from 1972-75. He ranks third on Miami's all-time total offense list with 3,200 yards. Smith gained 2,187 yards in 503 carries and scored 12 touchdowns and completed 95 of 224 passes for 1,013 yards and nine touchdowns. He gained first-team all-MAC honors his senior year. Smith played in the American Bowl in Tampa, Fla., following his senior year and was selected in the second round by the Seattle Seahawks.
