Miami Stays Atop MAC With Win Over Toledo

Makenzie Myers provided the clinch for the RedHawks

OXFORD, Ohio - Pushing its win streak to four matches, the Miami University women's tennis team took down the Toledo Rockets Friday by a score of 4-3 at the Miami University Tennis Courts. The conference-leading RedHawks improve their record to 4-1 in the Mid-American Conference and 7-10 overall.

The Rockets had the RedHawks on the ropes early on in doubles, but Miami was able battle back and claim the opening point. Emily Struble and Melati Devi rolled to a quick 6-1 win at court three, but that was negated by a 6-2 Toledo win on two. Brindtha Ramasamy and Milana Lysova found themselves in trouble early on at first doubles, facing 3-0 and 4-1 deficits to start their match. However, the reigning MAC Doubles Team of the Week was able to make the comeback with five straight games to win 6-4 and clinch the point for the RedHawks.

Ramasamy, recently named the MAC Singles Player of the Week, continued her dominant streak of performances as she breezed through Toledo's Leenabanchong at first singles 6-0, 6-1 and doubled the Miami lead. Emily Struble provided another straight-set win, grabbing a 6-4, 6-4 victory at fourth singles to put the RedHawks on match point.

Toledo would make things interesting by picking up two straight wins on courts two and three to cut the MU advantage to 3-2. However, the RedHawks would still be able to find the clinch via Makenzie Myers. With the score 5-4 in the third set and Myers and Toledo's Aleck locked in a deuce, the RedHawk sophomore beared down and took the pivotal point to give the RedHawks the match. The Rockets would claim the remaining match on court five, making the final score 4-3.
