RedHawks Close In On MAC Title With Win Over BGSU

Milana Lysova clinches for Miami with a comeback win at second singles.

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Miami University women's tennis team continued to roll Saturday with a 4-3 win over the host Bowling Green Falcons that kept the RedHawks atop the Mid-American Conference and pushed their winning streak to 6 matches. Miami improves to 9-10 overall and 5-1 in the conference.

With the victory, the 'Hawks can clinch at least a share of the MAC regular season title with a win over Western Michigan next week or a WMU loss of its three remaining matches.

The RedHawks did start the match in a quick 1-0 hole, as the Falcons were able to pick up the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. Emily Struble and Melati Devi were victorious on court three, posting a 6-1 victory.

Miami quickly stormed back in singles, earning decisive two-set victories on courts four, five and six. Struble defeated BGSU's Sasaki 6-3, 6-2, Devi picked up a 6-4, 6-1 win, and Makenzie Myers took her match by a 6-2, 6-2 scoreline. The Falcons did get one straight-set win of their own at third singles, putting the match at 3-2 Miami.

Bowling Green then knotted things up at three, taking a three-set win on court one. This left Milana Lysova, who was a set down at the time, playing in the decider on court two. In a close one, Lysova was able to pick up the win, edging BGSU's Tavpash in a second-set tiebreak and then rolling through the third set, 6-3.

All of the day's scores are listed below.
