RedHawks Cruise to 6-1 Win Over NIU

Ramasamy, Lysova, Ortega-Mendez, Devi, and Myers all earn straight-set victories.

HAMILTON, Ohio - The Miami University women's tennis team rolled to a 6-1 win Sunday over the visiting Northern Illinois Huskies at Riverside Athletic Club in Hamilton for the RedHawks' third straight conference win. The win improves Miami to 6-10 overall and 3-1 in the Mid-American Conference.

The win puts Miami alone atop the conference standings, ahead of four teams tied at 2-1, with three contests to go in the regular season.

The RedHawks were able to take the match's opening point in the day's doubles session thanks to a clinching win from Brindtha Ramasamy and Milana Lysova. After a 6-2 win from Melati Devi and Emily Struble on court two, the Huskies equalized with a win on court three. This left Ramasamy and Lysova's match as the decider, which the RedHawk duo was able to take 6-4.

Miami tacked on two more points early in the singles session. Devi took a 6-4, 6-2 win on court five and Ramasamy followed shortly after with her own 6-1, 6-3 win at first singles. This put the RedHawks one point away from clinching.

The clinch would come from Makenzie Myers, who pushed the RedHawk lead to 4-0 with a 6-2, 6-4 win on court six. Jordan Ortega-Mendez added on another after her opponent retired in the second set; Ortega-Mendez held a 7-5, 4-1 lead at the time. Milana Lysova made things 6-0, as she took down NIU's Walker 6-1, 7-5. The Huskies would get one consolation point with a tiebreak win on court four, making the final score 6-1.
